Many people look for NYC Vacation Rentals for their NYC trip, usually so they can save money and live like a real New Yorker in a great neighborhood. While I personally know many people who have had great success with vacation apartments, and many New Yorkers use vacation rentals when they travel, NYC is a different story. Unless you own the whole building, a vacation rental for less than 30 days is illegal! In 2010, the NY State Governor passed a bill making short term rentals illegal and NYC plans to heavily enforce this law.
There are still many great options for NYC vacation rentals and here are some top tips when selecting a NYC vacation apartment:
One of the first and best NYC Vacation Rental companies we have found is StaySmartNYC. They have over 45 apartments throughout Manhattan, from 1 Bedrooms to huge NYC Lofts, starting at $112 per night. Nine of their 45 apartments are in really great locations, very central Manhattan, and the rest are nearby, but not necessarily close to New York City Tourist Attractions. At the end of this article is a link to show you exactly which vacation rentals are in the prime NYC locations.
Suite Hotels in New York City offer both business and leisure travelers more space, kitchens and multiple room suites, often similar to a NYC apartment vacation rental, and many times, are more budget friendly. Check into the many suite hotel rooms in New York that offer you both apartment style living and the amenities of a hotel.
Affordable New York City is another legal NYC vacation rental company, with over 120 Bed and Breakfasts and fully furnished apartments, from Central Park to Wall Street. With their Bed and Breakfast option, you get your own private bedroom in a New Yorker's home. The owner lives on the premises, so B&Bs are sometimes referred to as "hosted accommodations." Many people enjoy the B&B experience because the hosts are a great resource for information about the New York City. As with most vacation rental companies, they require a minimum stay of four consecutive nights at B&Bs and five consecutive nights in a furnished apartment.
Popular NYC Vacation Rental companies include V.R.B.O, HomeAway and Trip Advisor recently started a vacation rental program. However, none of these companies check to see if the rentals are legal by NYC standards. That doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't get a rental, but my advice is to ask the landlord a lot of questions. They likely already know what they are doing is illegal, so you may consider this a sign of how they may run their apartment or business
